#FeesMustFall
THE SPREAD OF THE #FEESMUSTFALL CAMPAIGN
The #feesmustfall campaign began in mid October 2015 by the students representative council of the Witwatersrand demanding the implementation of free tertiary education, the campaign started eye catching to the local and international media platforms when the nine universities started to protest and the message was clear that the cost of higher education were too high and unaffordable for the majority of poor black students, the protest started peacefully until it was widely supported things changed the protest started turning violent.POSITIVE ASPECT ACHIEVED BY THE #FEESMUSTFALL CAMPAIGN
The #FeesMustFall movement was praised for its achievement
in raising awareness about the funding crisis in higher education in South
Africa. This is a long-standing problem that universities have been fighting
for years but the #FeesMustFall movement brought the crisis to public attention
in a period of two to three weeks. The movement achieved a number of positive
things at various universities, including the renaming of university buildings,
curriculum change and the in-sourcing of general workers.
NEGATIVE ASPECT OF THE #FEESMUSTFALL CAMPAIGN.
RECOMMENDATION
It was recommended that the campaign should have remained as a peaceful protest and the students representative council had to write a latter to the universities requesting for a meeting to negotiate the issue of the #feesmustfall by them doing so the protest would remade peacefully, the universities would have not increase their tuition fees for 2017 by 8% and the students should have not burn the universities materials because the reason the tuition fees increase the universities needed to fix the things that were vandalized during the protest.
